Women's History Month - Featuring a Woman Owned Business
In honor of Women’s History Month, we take time each March to recognize the countless contributions women have made to our communities, industries, and history as a whole. What began as a local celebration in 1978 in California grew into a national observance, officially recognized by Congress in 1987. Today, Women’s History Month serves as a reminder not only of the progress that has been made, but also of the impact women continue to have every day—especially as leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators in business.
With that spirit in mind, we’re proud to spotlight Yuck Old Paint, a women-owned business that is making its mark through quality work, creativity, and a commitment to excellence.
Yuck Old Paint, LLC was founded by Raea Jean Leinster in 2014 with a mission to keep paint and other hazardous waste materials out of local landfills by instead diverting them into recycle & reuse opportunities.
Paint that the company deems good enough for reuse is adopted by local theater companies from Richmond to NYC, and is exported overseas to humanitarian construction projects in Africa.
Yuck Old Paint keeps and destroys in-house paint that is no longer viable for reuse.
They operate in 10 states and service residential homes, commercial buildings, government agencies and municipalities.
Net Zero Waste legislation and high operating costs have caused many municipalities to ban paint from their local landfills, including Washington DC, Prince Georges Co, Frederick Co, Anne Arundel Co., and starting in 2030, Fairfax County.
This puts Yuck Old Paint in a unique and favorable position
