Frequently Asked Questions

What does a financial planner actually do?

A financial planner helps you make smarter decisions with your money—so you can be intentional about where you’re going, not just reacting along the way. We bring structure to your financial life, align your investments with your goals, and help you navigate the decisions that matter most.

Who do you typically work with?

We work with individuals and families who value thoughtful planning and want to be proactive—not reactive—with their finances. Many of our clients are professionals, business owners, and those approaching or in retirement who are looking for clarity and direction.

Is there a minimum investment requirement?

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all minimums. The best starting point is a conversation to determine if we’re the right fit for each other.

What does it cost to work with you?

Our fees are based on the level of planning and support you need. We’re always transparent and will walk you through exactly what to expect before you make any decisions. Your initial consultation is complimentary.

How often will we meet?

Most clients meet with us at least twice per year, but we’re available whenever something changes or a question comes up. You decide how often you want to meet. This is an ongoing relationship—not a once-a-year check-in.

Do you offer comprehensive financial planning or just investment management?

We focus on comprehensive planning. Your investments are just one piece—we also look at tax strategy, retirement planning, risk management, and how everything works together.

How do you build investment portfolios?

Every portfolio is built around you—your goals, your timeline, and your comfort with risk. We focus on creating a disciplined, diversified strategy designed to support long-term success.

Active vs. passive — what’s your approach?

We take a more active approach to managing portfolios. Rather than simply tracking the market, we’re intentional about positioning—looking for opportunities, managing risk, and making adjustments as conditions change.

Can you help with Roth conversions and tax strategy?

Yes—tax strategy is a key part of our process. We help you evaluate opportunities like Roth conversions and coordinate with your CPA to ensure everything is aligned.

Can I move my existing accounts to you?

Yes. We’ll guide you through transferring and consolidating accounts so everything is organized and working together. Our team handles the details to make the process as seamless as possible.

Do you work with clients outside of Virginia?

We do. We work with clients across the country and can meet virtually, making it easy to stay connected wherever you are.

What makes your firm different from other advisors?

Everything we recommend is based on what’s best for you. Our services are personalized to YOU, and we listen to what our clients are interested in. Just as important, we focus on building long-term relationships—so you have a trusted partner as your life and finances evolve.

Do you help with long-term care planning?

Yes. We help you plan ahead for potential long-term care needs in a way that protects your assets and gives you and your family solutions and options to cover the rising cost of long term care. Finding the right solutions can be challenging without someone looking out for you, so let us do the planning for you so that you can have the peace of mind of having long term care needs covered if and when the time comes.

How do you manage risk? What happens in a market downturn?

We manage risk by building a thoughtful, diversified investment strategy aligned with your goals and are prepared to take action when necessary. Risk management is a fundamental part of our investment process. During market volatility, our role is to provide advice, guidance, perspective, and to make adjustments when necessary, to help you avoid emotional decisions that can derail long-term success.
